COMMUNITY RESOURCE TABLE POLICY

for

INSIGHT MEDITATION COMMUNITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE (IMCC)

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Resource Table is to create a forum for members of the Sangha to share information, programs, offerings, literature, and causes of individuals, groups, and non-profits other than IMCC that may be of interest to other members of the Sangha.

POLICY

IMCC will accept materials from people who are affiliated with IMCW or other Buddhist organizations and sanghas for display on its Community Resource Table.

IMCC does not promote or endorse any organization or individual displaying materials on its Community Resource Table nor does it promote or endorse any information, programs, offerings, literature, or causes of individuals, groups, or non-profits displayed on the Community Resource Table.

IMCC accepts no responsibility to assist in the preparation, duplication, or display of any material for the Community Resource Table.

IMCC requests that materials for display fall within its stated mission, which includes:

§         To promote the instruction and practice of Buddhist Insight Meditation (Vipassana) and related Buddhist teachings that awaken our natural wisdom and compassion.

§         To cultivate the growth of the spirit and community of all beings.

§         To initiate and promote related activities and programs which will increase the well-being and improve the quality of life of the community.

§         To aid, work with, and participate in the activities of other organizations, individuals, and public entities engaged in similar purposes.

Literature promoting partisan candidates for elected office, or political party organizations, may not be displayed on the table.

PROCEDURES

A Resource Table Monitor will be designated by the Board of Directors and will have the authority to review material to ensure its suitability for inclusion with materials on the Community Resource Table. It is recognized that such a review will entail a subjective judgment about the suitability of specific pieces of literature.  IMCC, through its designated Resource Table Monitor, reserves the right to make these determinations.

The IMCC Resource Table Monitor will be in charge of setting up the Community Resource Table before the weekly IMCC meditation.  New materials for the Community Resource Table are to be given to the Monitor in charge for display.

The name of the Sangha member submitting materials for the Community Resource Table must be included on or in the materials being submitted.

The IMCC Resource Table Monitor may rotate literature off the table to make room for new or timelier submissions.
