Born into the Sakiyan clan that traced their mythic roots to the sun, the Buddha was known as the Friend and Kinsman of the Sun -- itself an early symbol of awakening. As the sun radiates its warm and light to all without distinction, so too we will carry the image of the sun, opening to the basic goodness within ourselves and each other, as we practice loving-kindness, compassion and appreciative joy.
