The Embattled Separate Self:
How to Heal the Hurt
Tonight we will explore the most enigmatic of Eastern philosophical concepts...What is the self? And is there an alternative to feeling tense, contracted, separate and embattled with everything and everyone?
The concept of anatta "not self" is directly related to the amount of stress and suffering we endure, not only personally but globally. War, racism, sexism, classism and all forms of prejudice have their roots in the inaccurate sense of self.
Tonight we will look at practical ways to ameliorate this sense of separation. Our meditation practice offers us the promise of feeling more connected, less fearful, more fluid and joyful.
Tonight's talk and discussion will offer a full context for the special event scheduled for March 20th.
IMCC meets every Tuesday evening for a period of guided meditation and a talk by one of IMCC's experienced meditation teachers. The program is designed to be friendly and of interest to people with no meditation experience as well as more advanced practitioners.
