Driving While Black: Race, Space, and Mobility in America

June 22, 6:30pm

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) committee of IMCC will host a virtual screening of the film Driving While Black a ground-breaking, two-hour documentary film by acclaimed historian Dr. Gretchen Sorin and Emmy-winning director Ric Burns on Wednesday June 22 at 6:30 pm.  The film explores deeply embedded dynamics of race, space and mobility in America - focusing in particular on the experience of African Americans navigating the nation’s highways during the last four decades of Jim Crow. One reviewer writes: “Driving While Black strikes a fascinating balance between never losing track of the racism of Jim Crow and celebrating some of the Black entrepreneurship it inspired.”  Watch the trailer here for more information.

The screening is being offered free of charge (licensing fees have been underwritten by grant funds).

There will be a discussion immediately following the film.

Please register ASAP so we know how many viewers to expect.
