“Mr. Duffy lived a short distance from his body.” - James Joyce

In his short story “A Painful Case,” Joyce portrays Mr. Duffy as a meticulous bureaucrat drifting through a colorless and aimless life, cut off from his body and his feelings. While you may not feel as disconnected from your body as poor Mr. Duffy, at times you may have had the experience of meditation practice unfolding only in your head.

Join Teresa Miller and Matt Fritts to explore the theory and practice of somatic mindfulness, rooted in the Himalayan Buddhist tradition and featured in Lama Willa Baker’s recent book, The Wakeful Body. Learn about four dimensions of embodiment described in yogic Buddhism: the physical body, the subtle (or energetic) body, the truth (or awareness) body, and the essence (or integration) body.  And learn how the acronym “GROUND” (Ground, Relax, Open, Untangle, Nurture, Dissolve) can be used as a mnemonic to reconnect you to the timeless wisdom of the body on the spot, in a single short session, and wherever you are.
