Choppy Ocean Mind Compassion
Being human, we will experience choppy waves on the ocean - waves of confusion, anxiety, anger, and grief that accompany our thoughts, our views. Tossed by this rough water, what can we remember?
“Nothing whatsoever is to be clung to as I or mine. Whoever practices this has practiced all the teachings, whoever realizes it has realized all the teachings.”
In Buddhist practice, all traditions speak about nonclinging; all traditions point toward the nature of awareness and freedom as release from clinging.
We remember that beneath the storm’s surface lies deep stillness, a great natural, expansive beauty. Compassion for ourselves, for all beings, can loosen, expand awareness - developing a mind that does not cling to anything.
