Guided Meditation and Dharma Talk with Susan Stone

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, 7 – 8:30 PM

We are meeting in person at 717 Rugby Rd in the Unitarian Universalist sanctuary

IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING TONIGHT'S GATHERING (9/23)

The Unitarian Church notified us that they are installing a new sound system in the sanctuary today and tomorrow. This means that we will not be able to broadcast our meeting on zoom tonight, and we will not have microphones in the sanctuary this evening either. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you are unable to join us in person tonight, you can still enjoy one of the guided meditations in our Dharma Talk Archive. We will keep you updated on the progress of the new sound system and we hope that everything will be back to normal next week.

A message from Susan Stone:
Dear friends,
Though mics and Zoom won't be available tonight, the meeting, which I'll lead, will be an opportunity to share the Dharma in mind and heart in the old-fashioned way. We'll sit together, I’ll speak, invite conversation, and we’ll let it flow together!
With metta (loving kindness) to you all,
Susan

What I Wish I'd Been Told--A Map of the Spiritual Journey, Part 1

Having been involved in what Zen calls "the great matter of life and death" for several decades, Susan observes that much confusion could have been avoided if she had had a map of the journey, an overview. Tonight, she offers a map. She defines the spiritual journey in broad terms and discusses major features, focusing on initial phases, awakening, and widespread misconceptions about awakening. She points out that while many people have experienced awakening, the mind is resistant and readily dismisses the knowing in order to maintain our deep cultural assumptions of separation and the primacy of materiality. After an initial guided meditation and talk, there will be time for discussion.
