The purpose of HEAR is to help cultivate an equitable, inclusive, and compassionate sangha by listening to community members and responding thoughtfully to feedback, concerns, conflicts, and ethical questions.

HEAR provides a confidential resource for individuals and groups seeking support with interpersonal conflicts, ethical concerns, or ideas for strengthening our community. Council members may serve as listeners, facilitators, mediators, or witnesses, helping people navigate difficult conversations in accordance with Buddhist ethical principles.

IMCC representatives who are widely respected for their maturity, integrity, and lived practice are nominated by the Board of Directors and Guiding Teachers' Council, and approved by a vote of the Board. HEAR elects its own co-chairs from among its members and meets on an as-needed basis, or when requested to do so by the IMCC Board chair.

Current members of HEAR include Helen Farrar, Phyllis Savides, Anna Vanhoy, and Peter Fremgen.
